This smartphone app records the sound of a person coughing and uploads it to the Cloud to be analyzed by machine learning algorithms
The software compares the sound file to thousands of reference coughs recorded in a similar geography and population
AcuScreen determines the likelihood that the subject has a specific respiratory disease including Active TB

Tuberculosis Detection

Acoustic cough analysis yields a sensitivity of 95.24% at a specificity level of 90.12% for TB classification
This result exceeds the WHO requirements¹ for a community-based triage system which calls for sensitivity of >90% and specificity of >70%
Our results demonstrate that mobile cough analysis technology presents a feasible front-line triage tool for active pulmonary Tuberculosis in low resource and high burden settings
